Can your watch tell Ghana time?

watch from dhgate.com

Did you know that the time in Ghana is actually different from the time anywhere else? Yes it is.

You see in other parts of the world, people read the time on a clock and stick to it. Elsewhere if someone tells you ‘I’ll be there in fifteen minutes’, you can expect to meet them in fifteen minutes. In Ghana, that same sentence means an entirely different thing and you need to know these three tips to know exactly when they are coming – or if they are coming at all!

Welcome to Ghana, where we have our own concept of time!

First, know the basic sentences.
English; I'm on my way ;  Pidgen; I dey road top dey come;
MISTAKEN MEANING; I have set off
ACTUAL MEANING; I have nothing major to do BEFORE I set off / or all the things I have to do before setting off will not take longer than 35 minutes.
ESTIMATE ARRIVAL TIME; 35 minutes + Normal distance travel time + 10 minutes extra for no reason!

Second, listen to the tone
ENGLISH; I'm already here, where are you?;   Pidgen; I dey here, where you dey?
MISTAKEN MEANING; I'm already here and seated.
ACTUAL MEANING; This is tricky. Listen carefully to measure how much emphasis they place on the ‘you' in English. In Pidgen, they'll repeat the ‘you’ twice like ‘where you, you dey?’ that means the person is actually within 3 minutes of your planned meeting place. If there is no emphasis on the ‘you’, give them 10 minutes! Yes! many of us actually think arriving 10 minutes late is being on time! Some even think that’s being too early and shows we are too eager!
ESTIMATE ARRIVAL TIME; 3 - 10 minutes depending on emphasis!

Third, prepare for a no show
ENGLISH; That will take me a while.    Pidgen; I go cher small, give me small time.
MISTAKEN MEANING; They’ll come in about 2 hours
ACTUAL MEANING;
This is as honest as it gets.
ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME;  Unknown. Roughly anything from 3 hours to infinity!

WARNING
These estimates only work for the more punctual people and it assumes that the person is eager to see you. You may have to wait longer or forever if any of these are not true because some people are notorious for making people wait for ridiculous times.

What is the most annoying time someone has ever made you wait for? We can't wait to hear it!

Ladies, please don't try this!

Hi Ladies, is it true that many of you consider your wedding day as one of the most important events in your life? Well for us guys, it is the champions league or world cup final if our team is playing. And if there is anything you should be aware of, it is this- try not to call us during an important football game! We have been getting complaints that some ladies have taken nagging to levels that exceed international standards. If finding fault and arguing over petty things were an international sport, some ladies will be Olympic medal winners!

So during this very tensed match, this dude was seriously supporting his team when his girl rang. Clearly the sweet lady wasn't nagging, her only mistake was choosing the wrong time to have some sweet talk. Just listen to this...

Sweet girlfriend; '...Do you love me?'
Soccerholic boyfriend; Oh No.... Rooney just pass that ball!! [Because of the noise from the TV, she only  heard the first two words in that sentence]

Sweet girlfriend; 'What?? you don't love me anymore? you lied to me? what about everything you told me? it wasn't real?'
Soccerholic boyfriend; 'Oh snap! that was a mistake ... why didn't he shoot'. [Again, she didn't hear the last part].

That blow was too much for the heartbroken girl. But she wanted to be sure it wasn't a dream, she dropped the call, managed to bring herself to reality and  dialed one more time. She was in for worse!
It was during a penalty shoot out, the guy had one hand on the phone ,the other hand in a fist, intently gazing at the screen without batting an eyelid. He picked the call--- no response from the other side....  he was too focused on the game to notice he pressed the wrong button and he had actually rejected the call with a message..... 'I'm with my girlfriend at the moment, i'll call you back later'.

At the end of ninety minutes, the guy lost the game and lost his girl. Sweet girl was crying. her man just shocked her by telling her her he didn't love her, the relationship she put so much effort into was a mistake and he was busy with his new girlfriend. Her world was almost coming to an end...

We hope dude gets his sweet girl back, but we hope you keep this in mind as the world cup starts next summer especially if your man is supporting exciting teams like Spain, England, Germany and Ghana!

5 similarities between Islam and Christianity

Ever asked yourself why religion causes so much division and wickedness? you are not alone. One simple answer may be because it focuses too much on our differences instead of similarities. As Muslims celebrate the Feast of Sacrifice (Eid ul Adha), we use music to present five similarities in the world's most popular religions. If you are a decent human being who loves peace- and music (all our readers do), these five similarities will make you smile!

5.  Angels

Christians and Muslims both believe that God sends heavenly angels as messengers to us humans. One of those angels probably touched a  Jamaican-American singer who recorded an international smash hit in 2000 by singing 'girl, you're my angel' ... 'closer than my peeps, you are to me'. Can you guess  his name? it starts with 'S'.

4. Holy book.

In Islam, the holy book is called the Holy Quran. In Christianity, it is the Holy Bible.  Surely, there is nothing holy about showbiz but Jay Z and Justin Timberlake recently teamed up to sing about fame in a hit song called 'Holy.....' Whats the missing word?

3. Jesus Christ

Christians and Muslims regard Jesus as a divine prophet who proclaimed the Gospel of God. Christians take it further and say Jesus is the Son of God. This American rapper calls himself 'God's Son' and is well known for hits like  'I know I can' , 'Hate me now'. Who is he?

2. Heaven and Hell

According to both religions, On the last day of existence, there will be a judgement to separate the righteous from the evil. After this judgement, the righteous will be rewarded with heaven and the evil will be punished. Avril Lavigne and Randy Crawford did brilliant renditions of the popular song 'Knock on heavens door' but who recorded the original?

1.  One God, One love

Both religions preach one God and have the same key figures of the faith - Adam, Abraham, Moses, David. Practically, they all preach love between all the people of the world. It is nice to see Lauryn Hill, Eve, Rita Marley and many other musicians coming together to sing Bob Marley's 'one love'. Which Ghanaian reggae musician did a song titled 'Love is my religion' as a remix to Gyptian's 'Hold yuh' ?

So there you have it, our religions are probably much more similar than different. Lets share this and compare scores. We can fight ignorance - one person at a time. Afterall, if not for nothing, we all need peace to enjoy good music. Happy holidays!
